A couple months ago, my boss asked me to do a little revamping of our corporate infrastructure, which included buying some new office furniture, improving the lighting, updating the break room, and most significantly, investing in a wholesale VOIP system. Before this assignment I had no idea what VOIP stands for, but I discovered that it stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol , which means that you can make telephone calls over the Internet which saves companies a lot of money on their communication expenses.
When my boss gave me this assignment, he didn't specifically ask me to invest in VOIP, but I had sort of a fuzzy notion that VOIP was one of those big new things that companies were doing, but it wasn't until someone suggested it to me that I looked into it seriously. The idea came from Dave, one of the new IT guys that we had hired a few months before to help us develop and maintain a new website and customer service system.
He went so far as to prepare a really detailed PowerPoint presentation to help convince me of the benefits of such a system, and I was so impressed with all of his points that I immediately agreed to his plan and I began looking into the company's options for wholesale VOIP. After talking with him, I went straight to my computer where I got on the Internet to see what options were available for VOIP services, and I wanted to make sure to get the best price, but I also wanted to get good service that wouldn't have a lot of problems.
My research paid off, and soon enough I had found the website for a great company that specialized in VOIP wholesale and was able to install and transition everything for my company. This wholesale VOIP provider was actually in my area, so I was rather fortunate in several respects as we were able to communicate and get everything in motion remarkably fast, so that in no time, the process was underway.
Even though there were some people who were not thrilled with making a change, it did not take long for people to see the many benefits of having our phone lines connected to the Internet, and we even found that a lot of our connections, especially long distance, came through a lot clearer with this new system. Even though this was only one of the tasks that I managed while working on the larger revamping of our company, it was certainly the best decision I made, and it earned me a lot of recognition and thanks at work, which I always remembered to deflect to our IT guy who had the bright idea!
