What Are The Benefits of SIP Trunking?

By Emily Collins

The business world has started to evolve at a rapid pace, this isn't just with the technological side of things such as SIP, VoIP and the many other related acronyms, but also the importance of management, flexibility and recruitment that Human Resources have to follow.

The relationship between technology and workplace management is becoming clearer and more easily definable with each new economic and management trend, but to really understand the benefits of these technologies, we first need to understand how they work.

The less jargon fluent amongst us might be wondering exactly what SIP trunking entails. A SIP trunk on the most basic level is a technology that allows organisations to go beyond the most basic level of communication in the company and extend the connectivity further afield. The VoIP and media service is facilitated by external telephony service providers and allows an organisation to benefit from unified communications. This technology works via PSTN connectivity via trunking online and differs from a traditional telephony service which is based on physical PSTN lines and wire.

This is beneficial in many ways, not least being the fact that the applications often facilitated by those providing SIP trunking allow for new and innovative ways of communicating, including voice, video, desktop sharing, whiteboard sharing and web conferencing. Not only are there fewer wires to trip over, but there are numerous benefits which allow for a more streamlined, connected and flexible way of working, and workforce itself.

The days when each member of staff had a stand alone direct line are long gone! We now embrace the fact that our phones are connected up to our computers, which are often in turn connected to our mobiles and smart phones. While understanding the ins and outs of SIP trunking can be quite complex, it is easy enough to identify with all the recent technology upgrades that we've witnessed in the workplace over the past few years.
